The Computer Science Department strongly encourages students to participate in an internship experience the summer after their Junior year. Internships allow students to apply their technical knowledge in a real-world environment while helping them discover the career path they would most enjoy. Interns often engage in the same projects and work on the same teams as seasoned software engineers and system administrators. Below are some of the most noted internship programs in the country for computer science students. There are many great opportunities that have not been include here. Students are encouraged to search the web for more.
BYU students also have a one-year subscription to internships.com. The search engine lists internships by location, area of study, and compensation to aid our students in their internship search.

Successful applicants typically hold Bachelor's degrees in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related fields and are enrolled in advanced degree programs by the time their internships begin. There are no residency requirements.
Qualifications
In selecting research interns, we try to make very close matches between students' skills and our project requirements. We request letters of recommendation in an attempt to gain information about your accomplishments, work habits, creativity, and dedication.
Fill out the online application form at http://www.parc.com/contact/employment/intern/
The application process should take about 30 minutes, and you will be provided with the opportunity to return and update your application through mid-February. Students are encouraged to apply and prepare your application early.
In addition to the application form, two letters of recommendation are required. These must be from faculty members or work supervisors who are familiar with your current efforts. The online application sends an automated email request for your references.
As one of the most innovative and prolific research laboratories in the U.S., Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) offers its interns a truly exceptional research and work experience.
PARC, the birthplace of laser printing, Ethernet, the graphical user interface (GUI), and ubiquitous computing-has a unique Multidisciplinary culture spanning disciplines within physical, computational, and social sciences.
Graduate interns are fully integrated into PARC's research activities and have the opportunity to receive author credits on publications.
Past interns have overwhelmingly responded that their PARC experiences were some of "the best experiences of my life, personally as well as professionally".
