Systems Engineer/Cost Analysis

Job Description: 

Be part of the product development team working on a suite of software products used by Fortune 500 companies and major government organizations. We are the industry leader in innovative project estimation software for several domains.

You will be involved with all tasks necessary to develop, implement, maintain, and support the software product line, which covers several major software applications. You will work closely with programmers to ensure the products meet requirements and function properly. This position is suited to someone with strong analytical skills and an eye for detail.

Work will involve:
This job involves cost model research, requirements analysis, testing, and customer support. Specific activity includes:

  • Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates business systems and user needs.
  • Prepares product requirements documents including a detailed description of user needs, program functions, and steps required to develop or modify computer programs.
  • Builds prototypes that emulate product features and can be used for testing.
  • Write documentation to describe program development, logic, coding, and corrections.
  • Writes manual for users to describe installation and operating procedures.
  • Participates in the testing process by preparing test plans, procedures, executing tests and test reporting.
  • Provides technical support to customers who are using or implementing the products.
  • Works under immediate supervision. Typically reports to a project leader or manager.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience: Bachelors (BA or BS) in a technical field such as mathematics, economics, engineering, IT systems or related field.

Computer Skills: Strong computer skills, particularly Excel and VBA. Programming experience helpful, but not required.

Mathematical Skills: Strong mathematical background including probability, statistics, algebra, and calculus.

Collaboration and Communication: Must be able to work collaboratively with design team, be unafraid to speak up and yet willing to take instruction. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in the English language.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, computer code, etc.). Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Communication Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or other members of the business community. Ability to write technical presentations, technical articles for publication. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, or other organizations.
