Google Pittsburgh is about to expand in a few areas: machine learning, statistical computation, systems/networking. We also need at least three new people with expertise in building complex web applications.

We are working on many aspects of advertising and product search, especially with respect to learning algorithms and optimization schemes to make ads and campaigns as useful as possible to users. The machine learning scale is basically planetary; systems of very large datacenters around the globe continually trying to self-improve. The systems issues include new ways of detecting, diagnosing and mitigating latency in these huge distributed systems. For product search, there are significant challenges in extracting and reasoning about items for sale, their properties, the properties of merchants, and corresponding ranking and taxonomy-creation systems.

The primary interest is in students who are likely to graduate in the short or medium term. Google Pittsburgh has a nice mix of PhD, Masters, and Bachelors graduates. Everything we do is towards systems in real production, so we are looking for folks who really enjoy designing, programming and launching systems.
