About Sean Warnick

Sean Warnick received the B.S.E. degree from Arizona State University in 1993, and the S.M. and Ph.D. degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1995 and 2003, respectively. He attended ASU on scholarship from the Flinn Foundation, graduated summa cum laude, and was named the Outstanding Graduate of the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. At MIT, he received the Frederick C. Hennie III. Award for excellence in teaching (1997). In Summer 2006, Sean accepted an invitation as a visiting scholar at Cambridge University, UK. Additionally, Dr. Warnick has held consulting positions with various companies, and he was Co-founder and Chief Scientist of Infolenz Corporation from 12/99-12/02.

Research Interests

Sean's research concerns the analysis and design of processes for making decisions from data. The work focuses on fundamental relationships between information, uncertainty, and complexity as seen from the perspectives of a wide variety of applications. Key issues for this science of information and decisions include approximation, learning, control, verification, and optimization.
