This talk will provide an overview of the library market and the technological changes that are driving library automation. Search engines, robotics, mobile devices, and new opportunities in the library market will be discussed. The talk will also cover how to use your entrepreneurial ideas and create a software company that can make money.  It is not enough just to have an idea, because essential business-related concepts and functions are required to create a successful software company.


Talin R. Bingham is SirsiDynix's Chief Technology Officer, leading the company's research  and development efforts for more than 4000 libraries and hundreds of millions of users worldwide. Talin has more than 25 years of software engineering experience, including  15 years at the management level for a range of product development organizations. Prior to SirsiDynix, he  owned his own technology company developing complex robotic software systems for Intel and AMD. Prior to that he was Vice  President of Development for Verticore Technologies creating automated solutions for the oil and chemical industry. Talin also has worked for Cimetrix Inc.,  Century Software, Wasatch Interactive Learning, Unisys Corp., and Boeing Corp. He holds an Associate Electrical Engineering degree from Ricks College and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Utah.
