Job Description: 

About the BYU Digital Archaeological Initiative: The ADI’s mission is to incorporate state-of-the-art technology into archaeological practices in order to streamline data collection, reduce redundancy and error, improve efficiency, and capture data not previously visible or recognized. An integral part of the team are Front-End Developers building a series of mobile and web apps that will help meet ADI’s goals.

Description: This position involves designing, developing, and implementing software applications that will convert current archaeological documentation processes to a paperless system. This position will also require training students and researchers with a variety of skill levels and understanding.


  • Work closely with product owner on product development and design
  • Assist with planning, designing, developing, and reviewing software implementations
  • Produce high quality, modular software
  • Contribute to product documentation
  • Research effective and stable solutions


  • JavaScript experience
  • Experience with a web development framework such as React, Angular, Polymer, etc.
  • Ability to problem solve, be proactive, and work without continual supervision
  • Capability to communicate complex ideas in a way that others without technical backgrounds can understand
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop the skills necessary to develop and maintain Android applications
  • Love of web development and related technologies

Helpful skills (not required):

  • React.js
  • Apache Cordova and/or Adobe Phonegap
  • Redux, MobX, Flux or other state management library
  • Node.js and npm
  • Git
  • Typescript, ES6, and code transpiling
  • Experience deploying apps to the Apple or Google app stores.
