Biography

Michael Jones earned a PhD from the University of Utah in 2001. He joined the faculty at BYU shortly thereafter in 2001. At BYU he teaches Designing the User Experience (356), User Interface Software (456), and Interactive Software Systems (656).

Dr. Jones is married to Angela Stratton who is also a BYU CS graduate.

Michael D. Jones was appointed Department Chair in 2025, succeeding Kevin Seppi. His research focuses on human-centered computing. He and his students worked with others to develop technology for Deaf education which led to the development of Signglasses. He edited the first book on human-computer interaction in outdoor settings and organized the first conference on human-computer interaction and sports. As chair, he is focused on helping students develop both as disciples of Jesus Christ and as computer scientists.
