About CS Belonging
Our Mission
The Computer Science Department Belonging Committee and Belonging Mentors at BYU seek to build a covenant community of belonging — a Zion where hearts are knit together in unity and love (Mosiah 18:21) as we follow Jesus Christ. Grounded in mutual respect and charity toward all, we commit to nurturing an environment where excellence in computer science and the full realization of human potential can be pursued as we strive to bless and assist individuals in their quest for perfection and eternal life.
Our mission is grounded in the BYU Statement on Belonging.

Our Belonging Committee
The Belonging Committee is a group of staff and faculty who care deeply about making Computer Science a place where everyone in the department feels seen, supported, and at home. Throughout the year, the committee strengthens belonging through training, resources, and policy guidance, and by leading department initiatives. Its work is informed by ongoing assessment — listening to students, faculty, and staff and drawing on department data to understand needs and guide its efforts. In all of this, the committee looks to the Savior’s example of ministering to each person individually, and never overlooking the one.
