Abstract:
Join Professor Killian as he introduces himself to the department and shares his journey back to BYU. The seminar will explore his academic and professional career path, the research experiences that have shaped his work, and the ways his previous research is informing the development of his new labs and current research directions. Attendees will gain insight into his experiences as a researcher, his evolving areas of study, and what he hopes to explore in the next chapter of his career at BYU.
Biography
Taylor received a BS in Mathematics from Brigham Young University in 2013, an M.Eng. in Computational Science and Engineering from Harvard University in 2017, and a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Toronto in 2024, where he was additionally affiliated with the Vector Institute and the Institute of Medical Engineering and Science at MIT. He comes to BYU Computer Science after a post-doc at Apple, working as the post-training lead at MBZUAI's Institute of Foundation Models, and as a Principal Scientist at Lila Sciences.
